Description
The violin crafted by Martina Ongaro in 2024, in Cremona, is a work based on a personal model created by the maker and named "El Conde". For this piece, the luthier chose an antiqued varnish with red and yellow hues that enhance the elegance of the instrument. The top is made of two pieces of aged spruce, recognizable by the prominent presence of numerous winter rings, while the back is built from maple with an attractive horizontal flame.
In terms of sound, this violin stands out for its remarkable power across all registers, combined with great smoothness in the transitions between strings. Its character is reminiscent of the violins crafted by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, offering both comfort in performance and a clear, precise articulation.
This instrument was acquired during the Mondo Musica 2024 fair in Cremona, Italy, and I personally selected it from among the works of more than 80 contemporary makers, both Cremonese and international.
