Description

Guido Maraviglia (1908–2001) lived and worked in Pistoia, Tuscany, following the classical Cremonese tradition while also developing his own personal models. He often named his instruments and inscribed the names above the label, giving each one a unique identity.
The top of this violin is crafted from two pieces of old Italian spruce, while the ribs and back are made of beautifully flamed maple. The instrument features an oil-based varnish in deep red-wine tones, with delicate golden highlights that enhance its elegance and recall the refinement of Stefano Scarampella.
In terms of sound, it offers a dolce, soft and enveloping mezzo-soprano voice. The lower register is warm and full, while the upper range remains clear, refined, and controlled. Projection is exceptional, filling a concert hall with ease and precision.
Many 20th-century Italian violins share a distinctive character: they may seem intimate or restrained to the ear, yet their capacity to resonate with the acoustics of a hall is extraordinary. This instrument is an outstanding example of that tradition and holds a distinguished place in my collection.
